Japanese brocade fabric, from Nishijin district, Kyoto. RBT received this as a gift from a Japanese businessman. The bottom reads (left to right - repeated twice):
"Nishijin (where this was made); trademark (in a circle); Company Name (Heian Karaori - in Chinese characters); Special Made”.
"Karaori" means "very colorful and gorgeous textile with gold and silver threads". "Karaori" also refers to an exquisitely embroidered woman’s kimono, used as a costume in Noh.
