From 1950 to 1952, LtCol Thompson (a Major at the time) was the Commanding Officer of the Marine Detachment on Kwajalein, Marshall Islands. He was able to take his family with him--his lovely wife (Elizabeth "Betty" Meeker Thompson), son Robby and daughter Susie.
